Georgetown Piano Company's Master Piano Technician, Brian Hughes has been around pianos practically all his life, thanks to his grandfather and company founder, Jim Daw. Brian began simple repairs at the age of 10, and also accompanied his grandfather to tuning appointments, technician conventions, and various supply houses and factories. In late 1986, he began an old-style, hands-on apprenticeship with Jim Daw which culminated in his receiving his Master Piano Technician Certification in 1988, thus joining the ranks of the prestigious MPT membership.
Through the early 1990's Brian began assuming more and more responsibility in the company, due in part to the declining health of his grandfather. Upon Jim Daw's death in 1994, Brian inherited Georgetown Piano Company and continued to operate the business from the same location where his grandfather set up shop upon his departure from Georgetown, Washington, DC in the late 1950's.
In 1995 Brian was a featured speaker at the MPT Convention held in Lexington, KY. He also holds the following degrees from the Master Piano Technicians of America's Institute of Piano Technology and Engineering:

Now in his twenty-fifth year of business, his knowledge and experience continue to grow.
Brian has had a musical background for most of his life. Playing drums since he was three, he has performed in over a dozen bands, playing everything from heavy metal to jazz to oldies. From 1996 to 2001, and again from 2007 to 2010, he was the drummer for a large regional wedding/corporate party band, a 10-piece unit which performed in the Mid-Atlantic area.
In 2006, Brian and his wife Carla moved to beautiful Elkridge, MD, and they relocated the entire shop from Brian’s grandfather’s house to their new home. He is now serving not only the greater DC area, but the greater Baltimore Metropolitan area as well. On September 1, 2007, they enjoyed a fairytale wedding and reception that far surpassed all their dreams. Currently, they are both certified golf nuts, totally addicted to that maddening game!
