Appraisals
We provide three types of appraisals:
1) Buying
2) Selling
3) Insurance
Buying
It is usually a wise decision to enlist the services of a technician when purchasing a piano, especially a used one. The technician will evaluate a prospective piano, carefully examining the instrument inside and out. There is much more to a piano than its outward appearance and as a result, a common mistake many prospective piano buyers make is judging the whole instrument simply by its outer case. A skilled technician knows how to recognize potential problems which may require repair in the future. Severe problems, which are not easily detectable by the average person, may render the piano not worth the investment. In addition, since Georgetown Piano Company does not buy or sell pianos, we can give an independent (and hopefully honest) evaluation of the piano's current market value. We provide a written evaluation as part of this service.
Selling
Similar to those who are buying a piano, many people are unaware of the current market value of the piano they are trying to sell. Enlisting the services of a skilled technician will enable the seller to offer the instrument for sale at a fair price. Keep in mind, nothing exists which is similar to a "blue book value" as with automobiles. Among the things for which each piano must be individually evaluated are: age, cosmetic appearance, action parts wear and tear, condition of strings, tuning pins, pinblock, soundboard and bridges, keys and keytops, hammers, dampers, and general structural condition. Again, we provide a written evaluation as part of this service.
Insurance
Unlike buying or selling, the value of a piano for insurance purposes is quite different. When insuring a piano, an individual needs the replacement value of the instrument in the event of a loss. Obviously this is usually much higher than a piano's current market value. The piano is evaluated by the technician in a manner similar to that of the buying or selling process and a written estimate of the replacement value will be given in accordance with current market conditions.
Price: $135.00
